My stubborn refusal to use a loupe for rangefinder alignment cost me a $400 repair job in Denver.

I used to eyeball it, but after a client's M3 came back with focus drift, I bought a 10x loupe and now I check every single one. Anyone else have a tool they fought against that saved their bacon?

Been there, done that. A proper loupe is non-negotiable for rangefinder work, full stop. Trying to eyeball vertical alignment is just asking for trouble and a very unhappy client. That 10x loupe pays for itself the first time you catch a problem before the camera leaves your bench.

Focus drift" is why I finally bought a torque wrench.
