Shout out to that guy on this forum who said to check the shutter curtain tension before anything else on old Nikons

Got a beaten up Nikon F from a flea market last week, was about to tear into the mirror box. Decided to try the tension trick first, the curtain timing was way off. Fixed a 10 minute adjustment and now the thing fires perfect, anyone else save hours by starting simple?

You ever find the tension was so far off it was basically a full re-string job, or was it just a minor tweak for you?

Old Nikons are all about that curtain tension, aren't they? Saves a ton of headache when you just check the simple stuff first.
