Swapped helicoid grease on my Minolta and now the focus ring feels gritty

Pulled apart my Rokkor 50mm f/1.4 last month and replaced the old dampening grease with a lithium based one I had lying around. At first it felt silky smooth, but after a few days of shooting in Portland the ring started catching and stuttering in the mid range. I'm wondering if I should go back to the heavier NyoGel 7744 or if this is just a break-in thing, has anyone else had a similar reaction mixing grease types on older lenses?

Ugh, I did the exact same thing with my Pentax 50mm and it was a nightmare for like two weeks. Turned out the lighter grease was just too thin for the old helicoid threads, it would bunch up and grab in the same spot every time. Swapped back to the thick Nyogel and it's been perfect ever since, though I did have to clean the whole thing out first. Is yours doing it across the whole range or just one spot?
