Switched from canned air to a compressor duster for lens cleaning

I was using those canned air cans for years to blow dust off sensors and lenses. Finally grabbed a $40 compressor duster from Amazon and it's way more consistent, no propellant residue issues either. Has anyone else made the switch and noticed a difference on older gear?

Buddy of mine tried the compressor duster route and on his old Canon 5D Mark II the blast was too strong, actually pushed some dust deeper into the mirror box. He had to send it in for a cleaning after that, so your mileage may really vary with older gear that hasn't got the seals modern bodies have. Take that for what it's worth, just something to keep an eye on.

Hated to admit it but you're right, I used to think canned air was harmless until I read stories like that. Definitely made me reconsider using it on anything older than my current gear.
