That shutter count warning from a local shop owner stuck with me

I was dropping off a Nikon D810 for a mirror box check at a shop in Boise last Tuesday. The guy behind the counter said most of his rebuild jobs come from people who ignored the shutter counter until it hit around 200k. He showed me a camera that seized mid-shoot at a wedding, and that made me stop guessing on my own gear. I pulled my shutter count that day and found it at 178k, so now I'm booking a replacement before it fails. Has anyone else had a body last past 250k without service, or is that just luck?
