My 9 year old niece asked why the cat on that old cartoon never talks, and it made me rethink the entire show
So last weekend I was babysitting my niece in Fresno and she wanted to watch some old cartoons on my laptop. I put on a show I loved as a kid, one that got pulled after like 13 episodes back in 2004, and honestly I was ready to feel that warm nostalgia thing. About 10 minutes in she tugs my sleeve and goes "why doesn't the cat ever talk, is he broken?" and I just sat there because I never once wondered that as a kid. The show just always had the cat do slapstick and mumble, and I guess my brain filled in the blanks for years. We ended up watching 5 episodes and she kept pointing out other stuff that made no sense, like why the mom never asks where the kids are. It hit me that half of what I remember as "good writing" was me being 7 and not caring. Now I'm wondering if some of these canceled shows got axed because kids today actually pay closer attention than we did. Has anyone else rewatched an old favorite with a kid and had them roast it the whole time?
