PSA: Watching canceled cartoons at 0.75x speed fixed my biggest problem with old shows
I have been doing this rewatch thing for about 8 months now, mostly stuff from the late 90s and early 2000s that got pulled after a season or two. My problem was always the same: the jokes and story beats felt so slow that I would lose focus halfway through an episode and give up by the 10 minute mark. A friend from my old college town in Ohio mentioned he watches everything at 0.75x speed now, so I tried it on a random Tuesday with a show that got canceled after 13 episodes. It sounds weird but speeding it down just a little makes the delivery land better, especially for shows that were written for kids who were also flipping channels. The pacing issues I blamed on bad writing were actually me watching at the wrong speed. I went through 4 episodes of a cartoon that I used to skip and actually laughed at parts I never noticed before. Has anyone else tried changing playback speed for old shows, or is it just me?
