Lost $280 on a broker who promised a covered carrier from Dallas to Tucson
I shipped my old Civic from Dallas to Tucson last October and I want to warn people about the cheap broker route. The guy quoted me $650 and swore a covered carrier would pick it up in 48 hours. Two days turned into nine, and every time I called he said the truck was 'just outside Amarillo' or some other line. When the car finally showed up, it was on an open flatbed, filthy, with a cracked side mirror the driver said was already there. I paid $280 extra in 'storage fees' because the pickup window kept sliding. Total damage with the mirror was around $400 more than the original quote. If a broker won't give you the actual carrier's DOT number up front, just walk away. Has anyone found a broker who actually sticks to the pickup window, or is going straight to the carrier the only real move?
