Vent: wasted $600 on a broker until my barber in Cleveland gave me the fix
I had a car shipped from Phoenix to Cleveland last spring and the broker I picked quoted me $900 then bumped it to $1,500 the day before pickup. I paid it like a chump because my lease was ending in 48 hours. My barber heard the story last week, laughed, and said he always calls the actual trucking companies off the FMCSA site instead of going through a middleman. I tried it on a beater I bought in Tampa and got a guy out of Georgia for $650 cash, no games. Does anyone else skip the brokers completely or am I late to this?
Buddy of mine got quoted $1,100 by a broker for a Denver to Austin haul, then found the trucking company direct and paid $700. Feels like the brokers just exist to add a middleman fee and a headache.
Ha, that only works til the truck breaks down halfway there and nobody answers the phone. @the_robin a good broker vets the carrier and has your back when stuff goes wrong, which it does a lot in this biz. The cheap direct guy isn't such a deal when your stuff shows up two weeks late or wrecked.
