Blew my chance at a promotion last month because of one stupid mistake

Had a big interview for lieutenant and totally froze when they asked about a rescue scenario. I knew the answer too but my brain just went blank. Been studying for 6 months for that. Now I'm kicking myself and trying to figure out how to prep better for the next one in 2 years. Anyone bomb an interview like this and come back from it?

Blew a captain's interview three years ago the same way. Stumbled on a simple hazmat question I'd answered a hundred times on the truck. Spent two years studying twice as hard and got the job last fall. It stings now but that reset time let me catch stuff I'd been missing in my prep.

That's one way to look at it, but sometimes you just choke and that's all it is.
