Found out that 70% of job offers come from networking, not applications
I was scrolling through some career stats last week from a Harvard Business Review article and nearly spit out my coffee. They did this huge survey and found that something like 70% of jobs are never posted publicly. Instead, they get filled through people you know or people you meet. That blew my mind because I had been spending all my energy perfecting my resume and sending out dozens of applications on Indeed and LinkedIn. Now I'm shifting gears and going to local industry meetups in Austin where I live. I actually went to one Tuesday night and got two solid leads just from chatting with a guy who works at a startup. Has anyone else had better luck with networking than online applications? I'd love to hear what actually worked for you.
