Got passed over for a lead role in Columbus and my boss's feedback was one sentence long
I had been acting as the unofficial lead on our claims team in Columbus for about 7 months when the real opening posted, and I did not get it. My boss sat me down and said, "You are great with the work, but nobody outside our team knows your name." At first I was annoyed, but then I thought about it and realized I had spent all my time heads down instead of talking to the other departments I depend on. So I started sending one short email a week to someone in underwriting or billing just to ask what they needed from us. Six months later a different lead spot opened and I got it, mostly on those relationships. Has anyone else been told their problem was visibility instead of skill?
