Had a chat with my old landlord that totally flipped how I think about raises
He told me he never got a single raise without first showing a competitor's offer letter, and it hit me that I've been waiting around hoping my boss would just notice my work. Has anyone else had a moment where someone said something obvious that somehow never occurred to you?

Used to think loyalty got rewarded but that advice makes more sense.

Wow, talk about learning the hard way. Guess I've been treating my salary like a library book hoping someone just notices it's overdue. Guess the real trick is making your boss feel like they're at an auction instead of a checkout line.
