Had to choose between a stable office job and a risky startup offer five years ago

Back in 2019 I was working as a marketing coordinator at a bank in Cleveland, making $52,000 a year with good benefits. A friend from college asked me to join his new software startup as their first marketing hire, but the pay was only $38,000 with no guarantees. I went with the startup because I felt stuck in the corporate routine and wanted to try something different. The first two years were rough with long hours and no raises, but after we got acquired last spring my shares paid out enough to buy a house. Now I'm wondering if I just got lucky, or if taking risks is actually the better move for most people in their twenties. Has anyone else made a similar leap and regretted it or seen it work out?

I took a similar chance on a small startup and it paid off way bigger than I expected.

It's a gamble though, more flop than win for most people.
