Had to pick a remote job offer over a local one with a longer commute

Got two offers at the same time, one was a hybrid role in the city with a 90-minute drive each way, the other was fully remote for a company in Austin. I picked the remote one even though the pay was about 5k less. It's been 8 months and I don't miss the gas money or the traffic stress at all. I actually get way more done and can help my kid with school stuff. Anyone else take a pay cut for a better work setup and how did it turn out?

That "peace of mind" you get back is worth way more than 5k.

Remember my friend who took a lower paying job to work from home. She ended up saving more money on gas and daycare than she lost in salary. Her whole mood improved too.

Yeah, that 90-minute drive each way sounds brutal. Giving up 5k to get your time and peace of mind back is a total win in my book. It's wild how much less stress you have when you're not stuck in traffic for hours every day.
