Hot take: that "follow your passion" advice is doing more harm than good
Overheard a guy at the coffee shop in Austin telling his friend to quit accounting and become a photographer because "you gotta do what you love." Meanwhile my cousin Jake did that, blew through $15k in savings, and now drives for Uber. I think the safer bet is to find a job you can tolerate that pays the bills, then do your passion on weekends. Anyone else seen people burn out chasing the dream full time?

Read somewhere that only about 20 percent of creative pros make a full time living from their art alone. The rest have day jobs or side hustles. Reminds me of that whole "starving artist" stereotype everyone pretends doesn't exist. Jake's story is more common than people want to admit.
