I miss when clocking out meant the job was done for the day.
Now I get texts from my supervisor during dinner.

It's really frustrating when work bleeds into personal time like that. My old boss used to call me during family dinners all the time. I started setting my phone to silent after clocking out and only checked messages the next morning. After a week, my boss got the hint and stopped contacting me outside hours. It showed them that my off time is important for me to recharge. Now I make it clear from the start that I'm not available after work unless it's an emergency.

Ever had your boss call something an emergency?

Totally did the same thing with my last job. I just stopped answering emails after 6 PM, no matter what. If it was truly urgent, they'd call, and they almost never did. It forced them to figure things out on their own or wait until morning. Setting that hard line was the only way to get my time back. They'll keep taking it if you give them an inch.
