I thought the 'always ask for more money' advice was just noise until my last job offer
Everyone online says to negotiate every offer, but I figured for a junior role in Austin it would backfire. When they offered $65k, I asked for $70k citing my internship project that cut process time by 15%. They came back at $68k without any fuss. That extra $3k a year changed my view. Has anyone else been surprised when a standard piece of advice actually worked for them?

Remember thinking I'd get laughed out of the room for asking. My negotiation attempt was basically just me sweating and mumbling a number. Still got an extra two grand, which mostly covers my poor lunch choices.

Honestly I have to disagree. That sounds like a win to me. Getting an extra two grand is huge, no matter how you got there. The point is you asked and they said yes. Most people are too scared to even try. In my book, a mumbled number that works is way better than a perfect pitch you never give.
