My old method of applying to jobs was a total waste of 6 months

Used to just blast my resume to every posting on Indeed and LinkedIn, maybe 50 a week. Got maybe 1 callback every 200 apps. Then I read a post here about tailoring each resume to the job description, even just swapping keywords. Started doing 5 targeted apps a day with a custom cover letter. Got 3 interviews in 2 weeks. Anyone else tried narrowing your search down and seeing way better results?

I mean, the whole "blasting 50 apps a week" thing is exactly what killed my buddy's chances when he was looking. He did what you did, switched to targeting maybe 10 a week with total customization, and found out half those job postings were fake or already filled internally. The real trick nobody talks about is checking the posting date and how many applicants already applied. If it's been up more than 3 days with 200+ people, it's basically a dead end.

Your buddy's story hits close to home, I've watched so many people burn out doing the same thing. That tip about checking the posting date is gold, most folks don't realize how many of those listings are just sitting there collecting dust. Really wish job boards were more upfront about that stuff instead of making us jump through hoops for nothing.
