Overheard a guy in the break room say he took a $9K pay cut to stop managing people
So last week I'm in the break room at the dental office where I work, and this guy from the billing team is telling a coworker he gave up about $9,000 a year to move out of a manager role and back to doing the actual paperwork. I'm standing there microwaving my soup trying not to look like I'm listening, but the line that stuck with me was him saying he slept better in one week than he had in two years of running that team. It got me thinking about how much of my own stress comes from stuff that has nothing to do with teeth, like scheduling drama and coverage fights. I don't want anyone's job, but it made me wonder if we all quietly price our own peace of mind when we pick a path. Like, I've always assumed more money and more responsibility were the same goal, and now I'm not so sure. Part of me thinks he's lucky to know what he wants this early. Anyone else here picked less money over less headache, and did it actually play out how you hoped?
