Overheard a manager at my station say 'we hire for attitude, train for skill' and it stuck with me.

He was talking to a new guy about why they picked him over someone with more certs. I've been thinking about my own job hunt and how I focus so much on my resume skills list. Has anyone else had a hiring choice go a different way because of personality fit?

My uncle got a warehouse job over a guy with a forklift license because he made the foreman laugh in the interview.

A guy with a forklift license" - you mean a guy who literally has a specialized skill that warehouse job requires? That's wild. So your uncle basically walked in, told a joke, and now he's driving a forklift he's not certified for? I'm not mad at him, that's a pretty solid life hack. But also, the guy who actually took the time to get the license must've been steaming when he found out. Hope your uncle's jokes don't wear off when they need him to move pallets without dropping them.

Did you see that study about likability beating skills in hiring?
