Spent 3 hours on a resume for my nephew and he still uses Comic Sans

Kid graduated with a 3.8 in engineering and thought a font choice doesn't matter to hiring managers. Has anyone else had to fight family members on basic formatting just to get them a callback?

Oh man, Comic Sans for an engineering resume? That's like showing up to a job interview in clown shoes. I once helped my cousin fix her resume and she fought me on putting her phone number because she thought they'd call during dinner. Some people just don't get that hiring managers have like 6 seconds to look at it before tossing it. The font choice screams "I don't take this seriously" even if the content is gold. I've learned to pick my battles but formatting is one hill I'll die on every time.

My cousin got rejected from a job and I'm pretty sure it was because he used a 2-column layout that messed up the ATS scanner, not his font. People get so caught up on Comic Sans like it's the end of the world but I've seen hiring managers say they barely even notice if the rest of the resume is solid. Back in 2018 I helped a guy get a call back with a neon green header because his actual experience was crazy good. I'm not saying go wild but maybe we act like a weird font is a bigger deal than it really is.
