Switched from a 9-5 to self employment 6 months ago - mixed bag?

I went from a steady office gig to running my own landscaping company and its been wild. The freedom is great but my income dropped by 40% those first 3 months while I figured out clients. Anyone else make a similar switch and feel like the tradeoff was worth it in the end?

Gotta push back a little here, at least in my experience. I did the same thing two years ago, went from a desk job to running a small handyman service, and honestly the income drop never really leveled out for me. Even now I'm making maybe 10% less than my old salary, plus no health insurance or paid time off. The freedom is nice sometimes but I spend way more hours chasing down payments and dealing with cancellations than I ever did at my old gig. Your mileage may vary obviously, but for me the tradeoff wasn't worth the stress.

Wait, wait, hold on. You're telling me you're still making 10% less after two whole years? That's shocking honestly. I always hear people say the income catches up after the first year or so. Chasing down payments and dealing with cancellations sounds like a nightmare, I can't believe that part never got any better. Most people make it sound like the customer side is the easiest part once you get going. That must be so frustrating to put in that much work and still be behind where you started. Sorry you're dealing with all that hassle.
