Thought internships for older workers were a scam until I tried one at 45
I figured companies just wanted cheap labor, but the 8 week program at a local construction management firm actually taught me how to use project planning software that saved my crew about 10 hours a week. Has anyone else found a second career path through a program they were skeptical about?

So did the 8 week program have some kind of job placement guarantee if you finished it, or was it more like a "we'll teach you and you figure out the rest" kind of deal? I'm curious because I've seen a few of these programs pop up around here and they all advertise like they'll land you a role, but the fine print usually says something different. The AutoCAD thing you mentioned is interesting too, I hear that software takes a while to get good at, so an 8 week program that actually gets you comfortable with it seems like it'd be worth the time.

Wait, you said 8 weeks but then mentioned it saved your crew time. Did you stick with the firm after the program or go back to your old crew? Just wondering because most of these internship-type things I've seen for older workers are more like a trial period, not a separate training thing. The project planning software part makes sense though, I know a guy who picked up AutoCAD in a similar program and it completely changed what jobs he could take. That kind of hands-on training is rare, most places just throw a manual at you and hope you figure it out.
