I finally stopped fighting my track saw and started using a straightedge guide

For the longest time I was all about freehanding my track saw on plywood, thought the track was enough. Then I had to rip a bunch of 3/4" birch for a built-in cabinet in my own garage, and every cut was off by a hair. I tried clamping a straight 2x4 as a fence but it kept slipping, wasted about 30 minutes fiddling. Finally I grabbed a 48-inch aluminum straightedge and clamped it down tight, then ran the saw against it with the track removed. First cut was dead square, no tearout, and I redid the whole sheet in under 10 minutes. Anyone else ditch the track for a simple guide on long rips, or am I late to this?
