I was cutting crown molding backwards for years until a guy in Bend pointed it out.

I always held the piece flat on the miter saw table, thinking it was easier to see the line. He walked by on a job site and said, 'You're fighting the spring angle, flip it against the fence.' I tried it his way and the joints just clicked into place. How many other 'shortcuts' are actually making the work harder?

Reminds me of my buddy who kept swearing his drill was junk. He was trying to drive screws with a masonry bit he never changed out. Saw him do it one day and just handed him a Phillips bit. His mind was blown.

Okay but come on, how long can you really use the wrong bit before you notice? The screw just spins and makes that awful sound. Seems like a quick fix, not a life changing event.
