Last week I was framing a garage in Toledo and my miter saw kept drifting on long cuts. My buddy told me to clamp a scrap 2x4 to the fence as a backer board and it locked everything in place perfectly.

Yeah, heard that about wet lumber warping.

That trick works great until you're cutting really wet lumber. The wood can swell and push against the backer, throwing your angle off a tiny bit. Just something to watch for if your material isn't fully dry.

Man that's such a good catch, I've definitely had wet wood mess up cuts before and it's frustrating. Appreciate you pointing that out so people don't waste material.
