Old timer told me to set saw blade height lower than I thought, changed everything
Was working on a framing job outside Columbus last spring. Guy named Jerry who's been doing this since the 70s walked over and told me my blade was sticking up too far. He said keep it just barely above the wood, like 1/8 inch tops. I always did the whole tooth above the material thing. Tried his way for a week and dang if the cuts aren't cleaner and the saw doesn't kick back near as much. Anyone else get told some simple trick that went against what you learned?

That bit about feeling the cut is exactly why I fought it for so long... thought I was losing control if I couldn't see the teeth working. But Jerry made me try it on a stack of 2x6s and the saw just glided through without that nasty grabby feeling. Cleanest cuts I'd gotten all week too.
