Pro tip: stop using tape measures with that cheap hook
I went through three tape measures in a month before realizing the rivet on the hook was loose on every single one, throwing off my cuts by 1/8 inch. Switched to a Milwaukee with the reinforced hook last week and my miter joints are finally hitting tight again. Anyone else have this issue with specific brands?

That 1/8 inch would drive me nuts on crown molding. Did you check if the hook was actually shifting or if the slot it rides in was just cut too wide from the start? I had a Stanley that measured fine until I pushed on it, then it floated a good 3/32.
