Rant: I framed my last 3 sheds with 16 on center and now I'm second guessing it
I've been building small sheds and workshops for folks around Waco for about 4 years, and I always went 16 inches on center for the walls and roof rafters, no questions asked. Last month a guy I sub for told me he switched to 24 on center with 2x6 studs about 2 years ago and says it's just as solid, and he's saving about $140 in lumber per shed. I tried 24 on center with 2x6 on one build to test it, and honestly the walls felt just as stiff, but when I sheathed it I could feel a little more give between studs when I leaned on it. Problem is the next shed I quote, the customer wants a workbench hung on the wall and a heavy shelf, and I don't know if 24 on center will hold a lag bolt the way I want. So do I stick with 16 on center and eat the cost, or go 24 with blocking where stuff hangs? Curious what you all run for small outbuildings and whether you've had callbacks from it.
