Rant: My brand new framing nailer jammed solid on the second day of a big addition

It was a $400 tool that just stopped firing, right in the middle of sheathing a roof in Portland. I had to finish the day with a hammer, which set us back hours. Do you guys try to fix these jams yourself or just send it straight back to the warranty service?

Had a similar thing happen with a miter saw blade lock. Tried to fix it myself, which was a mistake (I'm not great with small parts). Ended up sending it in anyway.

Fixing a jam yourself is fine if you know exactly what you're doing, but with a $400 gun I'd ship it back right away. @diana155, trying to fix a new tool yourself is exactly how you void the warranty and end up with a broken paperweight. I had a Paslode do the same thing last fall, and after wasting an hour taking it apart I realized the jam was inside the driver blade assembly. Sent it back and they replaced the whole head unit under warranty. Three days later I was back on the roof, and they even covered the shipping both ways.

My Paslode did the same thing on a deck job last summer.
