Stop telling new guys to buy a full set of chisels right away

I built cabinets for 12 years with just a 3/4 inch bevel edge chisel and a $9 rasp from the hardware store in Bakersfield, and nobody I trained ever believed me until they watched me hang 14 doors in a day with that same pair, so what single cheap tool do you actually reach for more than your fancy set?
