That time my miter saw kicked back and I learned a lesson at 6 AM

I was framing out a bathroom in a house off Route 9, trying to get through a stack of pressure-treated 2x4s before the sun came up. The saw grabbed a wet board and threw it right past my ear, and after I picked myself up I realized I hadn't locked the slide back like an idiot. Has anyone else had a close call that made you change your morning routine?

Dude I did the exact same thing last spring with a wet cedar board. Mine shot across the garage and hit my tool chest so hard it left a dent. Now I never cut anything damp or green unless I've checked the slide lock twice and I keep my body way off to the left. Morning cuts are dangerous because you're still half asleep and thinking about coffee instead of the spinning blade. Glad you're okay man, that sound alone is enough to scare you straight forever.

Oh my stars, that's a good point about the tool chest dent. I wonder if moisture content in lumber isn't talked about enough compared to blade sharpness or kickback angles when it comes to these accidents.
