Visited a job site in Portland where the framers were using glue on every single joint...

I was down in Portland last Tuesday helping a buddy on a custom house and noticed the framing crew was putting construction adhesive on every single stud to plate connection. Some of the old timers swear by it for preventing floor squeaks and adding sheer strength but the younger guys argued it's a waste of time and money since code doesn't require it. The debate got pretty heated over lunch... has anyone else seen this become a standard practice or is it just overkill?

Huh wait, so you're saying the older guys actually sold you on the glue thing? I used to think it was total overkill too, like just another way for lumber yards to push product. But honestly after watching a few houses settle and hearing those squeaks start up, I'm starting to think it might not be the worst idea. The sheer strength thing makes sense when you think about all the racking forces on a wall, especially in Portland where the ground shifts around.
