Warning: I just hit 500 linear feet of crown molding installed this year

I was adding up my receipts for taxes and the number kind of shocked me. That's just the crown, not counting baseboards or any other trim. It's a lot of time on a ladder, a lot of miter cuts, and a ton of caulk. I guess it makes sense because I took on three whole-house remodels in the spring, but seeing the actual number written down felt different. It made me realize how much of my work lately has been finish details instead of rough framing, which is a shift from when I started. I'm getting faster at coping those inside corners, but man, my neck is stiff. Has anyone else noticed their work leaning more towards one specific skill over a season?

Yeah, that's a ton of molding. When you see it all added up like that it really hits you. I started doing way more finish work a few years back and the biggest thing that helped my neck was just forcing myself to come down off the ladder every twenty minutes. Stretch, look straight ahead for a minute, then get back up. It feels like you're wasting time but you'll last way longer in the day. The speed on the coping just comes with that much repetition, you're right.

Wait, dont you lose time going up and down that much? I always thought you just power through and get it done faster. But you're right, I've been cramping up way worse this year than when I started out. Last week I actually dropped my caulk gun because my hand went numb from gripping the ladder for so long. I might have to try that timer trick even if it feels like it slows things down.

Man, that's a crazy amount of crown. I feel you on the neck thing, it's a killer after a full day.
