I was skeptical when a framer named Dave on a job in Boise told me to stop fussing with my old chalk box and try a Tajima, since I figured $30 was a lot for something that just snaps a line. After two weeks of pulling it I noticed my lines were dead straight and my fingers weren't blue anymore, mostly because the cap seals tight and the reel winds smooth. Anybody else switch over, or am I just late to something everyone knew about?
I spent years with a cheap chalk box I bought at a big box store, and my lines looked like a drunk toddler drew them. The reel would stick, the line would kink, and I would end up with chalk all over my shirt and somehow none on the wood. My wife still jokes that I looked like a smurf by lunch. Then a buddy handed me his Tajima and I felt like I had been doing it wrong my whole life. The cap really does seal tight, and the line comes out smooth every single pull. You are not late, you just finally joined the club the rest of us stumbled into the same way.
