Hot take: a leaky toilet flapper beat me for 3 weekends straight

I figured it was a 20 minute fix but it turned into 3 full weekends and two trips to the hardware store in Springfield chasing a phantom leak. Turns out the fill valve was fine the whole time and I just had the chain too tight, has anyone else lost a whole weekend to one dumb little part?
