I defended remote work until my team's best designer moved to Austin

For two years I argued that video calls and async updates could replace the office. Then our senior designer relocated to Austin, and the first project she drove took 3 extra sprints because we kept misreading each other's comments. The tipping point was a whiteboard session over Zoom that took 45 minutes to explain what takes 5 in person. I still hate commuting, but I won't pretend distance doesn't change how a team thinks. Has anyone else seen a specific coworker move and flip their whole stance on hybrid setups?
