PSA: that clogged drain in my rental took 11 days and 3 plumbers to fix, was it worth doing myself?
So two weeks ago the kitchen sink in my rental in Sacramento just stopped draining, water sitting there for a full day. I called a plumber who charged $180 to snake it, said it was fixed, and it backed up again 6 hours later. Second guy ran a camera down for $250 and found roots in the line out by the sidewalk, but he wanted $2,900 to dig it up. Third guy got it done in an afternoon for $1,100 and I'm still not sure if I got played. Part of me thinks I should have just rented a $60 auger from the hardware store on day one. Other part of me knows I would have made it worse and flooded the place. How do you all decide when to stop throwing money at a problem and just do it yourself?
