Update: I spent $340 on a used bread machine and I made 4 loaves in 5 months
Six months ago I got it in my head that I was going to bake fresh bread every week and save money on groceries. I found a used Zojirushi on Facebook Marketplace for $340, which the seller swore was barely used, and I drove out to Fairview to pick it up because the price felt too good to pass. I used it 4 times in 5 months. The first loaf came out fine, the second one had a weird gum line in the middle, and by the third and fourth I was just dumping in the ingredients and walking away while it did its thing. Between the machine, the bread flour, the yeast packets, and the electricity, I figure each loaf cost me around $87 when you do the math, versus the $3 loaf I buy at WinCo every week. What really got me was realizing I do not actually like baking, I like the idea of baking, and those are two very different things. The machine is now sitting in my garage next to a dehydrator I bought in 2022. So tell me, what is the one kitchen gadget you regret, and did you ever manage to sell it or did it just become garage decor like mine?
