Hit 200 taco truck stops and 3 of them gave me food poisoning
I've been tracking every under ten dollar meal I eat for two years now, and crossing 200 last Thursday made me look back... it's the unlicensed trucks near the flea market that keep getting people sick, not the fancy ones downtown. Anyone else keep a list of spots to avoid or just me?

That little flea market strip by the old train tracks is exactly where I got sick twice last year. First time was some fish tacos that tasted off, second was a soggy torta that had me hugging the toilet for 36 hours. I started noticing the pattern after the second one: the cheapest carts with the most foot traffic always cut corners on ice storage or leave stuff sitting out too long. Meanwhile the fancy trucks with the $14 plates have legal inspectors breathing down their necks. It's like the invisible hand of the health department, but only if you're willing to pay for it.

36 hours" on the toilet? That's brutal, I don't think I could track another meal after that. But you're right about the cheap spots near the flea market, @dianagreen, those inspectors never step foot within a mile of that strip. I'd rather pay a few extra bucks for the truck that's got a visible license plate than gamble a whole weekend on a soggy torta.
