Can we talk about how everyone at the register holds their breath when the cashier scans a big item?
I was at the Giant Eagle on Saw Mill Road in Columbus last Tuesday and the guy in front of me bought a 55 inch TV. The cashier scanned it and the machine beeped twice, then she had to type in a code. Everyone in my lane just froze and stared at the screen like it was a heart monitor. I watched three people behind me do the exact same thing when it happened, hold their breath until the total popped up. Why do we all do this? Is it some leftover fear from when cards used to get declined all the time?
