Changed my mind about self-checkout lanes
Used to avoid them like crazy. Thought they were just a way for stores to cut jobs. But yesterday at the Safeway on 3rd street, the regular line was 8 people deep. Self-checkout was wide open. Gave it a shot, scanned everything in 2 minutes. Actually saved me 15 minutes of standing around. Anyone else come around on these?

My sister got stuck with a price check for ten minutes, so I still keep an eye on the machine.

I read somewhere that stores actually save like 20% on labor costs when people use self-checkout, so it's kinda funny we're doing their work for them. But honestly, at 7pm after a long day, I don't care about corporate profits if it means I'm home 10 minutes faster. The machines have gotten way better too, my local one hardly ever gives me that "unexpected item" nonsense anymore. It's still not perfect but for quick trips it's hard to argue with, you know?
