Hot take on self checkout lanes at the Kroger on Main

I was in line at the Kroger on Main Street last Tuesday and the self checkout machine kept saying 'unexpected item in bagging area' for my single bag of apples. The attendant had to come over and reset it three times before I could pay. Has anyone else had issues with those machines being too sensitive or is it just my store?

Unexpected item in bagging area" is the worst, my sister got scolded for trying to bag her own reusable bag once.

You know, I used to defend those self-checkout machines, thought people were just overreacting. But your story about your sister, @palmer.jana, getting scolded for bagging her reusable bag (which is literally the opposite of an unexpected item, right?) really flipped a switch for me. Last week I watched a lady nearly have a meltdown because the machine thought her purse was a bag of oranges or something. It's like the sensors are designed to assume you're a criminal the second you try to do things the eco-friendly way. Now I just go through the regular line even if it takes longer, no more robot battles for me.
