Hot take: the self checkout line at my Kroger went from 12 machines to 4 in like 8 months
So I do my grocery run every Sunday morning at the Kroger on High Street and for a while there were 12 self checkout machines lined up, barely ever a wait. Went in 2 weeks ago and there are only 4 left, plus one of them is always out of order. I asked the guy refilling the bags and he said they pulled the other 8 out back in March because too many people were walking off without paying, losses were up something like 30 percent at that store. Now there are two real cashiers working and the line wraps past the frozen pizza. I stood there for 11 minutes yesterday just holding a thing of milk watching everyone get mad at each other. Kinda wild how fast the vibe flipped from "no one wants to talk to a cashier" to "please give us more cashiers." Anyone else see their local store pull the self checkout machines back out? Wondering if this is a Columbus thing or happening everywhere.
Wait, 30 percent losses? That's insane. No wonder they yanked them out. My Kroger still has like 10 but now I'm gonna watch and see if they start dropping too.
