I started counting the candy bars at the register and got a weird look
At the Food Lion on Elm Street yesterday, I was stuck behind a person with a full cart. I got bored and just started counting the candy bars in the rack. There were 47 different kinds. The cashier saw me and gave me this look like I was nuts. It made me realize how much junk they put right there where you have to stare at it. Do you guys ever notice what they put at eye level to get you to buy it?

Man I do that all the time, just zone out and start counting stuff. It's crazy how they pack that rack. My trick is to just stare at the floor or my phone until the line moves. If you look at anything else they've got it set up to make you want it. That candy is right there because you're bored and your guard is down.

Totally get it. I've memorized the gum rack pattern at my store from staring at it so hard. They know exactly what they're doing.

Used to think it was just random stuff by the register. Then I worked a summer at a gas station. They train you on where to put the chocolate bars. Eye level for adults, lower for kids. Totally changed how I see every checkout line now.
