I was stuck behind a guy buying 24 cans of cat food and a single banana
So I'm in line at the Safeway on Maple, just zoning out, and the older guy in front of me turns around and says, 'You ever think about how bananas are the perfect waiting-in-line food?' I was confused, so he explained. He said the peel is the built-in timer. If you start eating it, you're committed for about a minute, which is just long enough to see if the line moves. He said he buys one every trip just to have something to do. I mean, idk, maybe it's just me but I'd never thought of fruit as a line management tool. It hit different because I'm always just scrolling on my phone, and this guy had a whole little system. Now I can't stop noticing what people are holding while they wait. Has anyone else had a stranger give them a weirdly specific life hack in the checkout lane?

That "built-in timer" thing is genius. My version is just standing there trying to remember if I got everything while I stare at the candy rack. I once spent a whole three-minute wait debating a Snickers, only to realize I already had one in my cart. My system is just bad memory.
