Noticed the self-checkout at my local Target in Denver has a 10-item limit for a reason
I tried to sneak through with 14 items last Tuesday and the machine froze up so bad I had to wait 12 minutes for a cashier to come reset it.

the machine froze up so bad" come on, is it really that deep? I've used those self-checkouts plenty of times with way more than 10 items and they work fine. Maybe your Target just has ancient machines or something. I feel like people blame the tech when really it's just a minor glitch that happens sometimes. Plus waiting 12 minutes for a cashier is not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. You could have just walked to another lane or tried again on a different register. It's just a self-checkout, not a life or death situation.

Wow hold on, you said waiting 12 minutes for a cashier isn't a big deal but that's literally a whole fifth of an hour. If you're on a lunch break or have a kid melting down in the cart, that 12 minutes feels way longer than it sounds on paper. Also the machine glitching isn't always just a minor thing when it's the only one open and you've already scanned half your stuff.
