Plastic bag double layering finally saved my ice cream run

I used to just grab whatever bags the cashier gave me and haul my frozen stuff to the car, but last week it was 95 degrees in Phoenix and by the time I got home my mint chip was soup. I tried a cooler bag, but that thing always ends up in the trunk with old receipts. So on Tuesday I asked the guy at the register to double bag my ice cream and frozen veggies, and he looked at me funny but did it. Turns out that extra layer really blocks the heat transfer, my ice cream was still solid after a 20 minute drive. I dunno why I never thought of it before, I've been wasting good money on melted pints for years. Has anyone else tried this or do you have a better way to keep cold stuff cold from the store to your house?

Ice cream's worth the extra trip, better to just keep it in the car with the AC blasting on it.
