PSA: The self-checkout line used to be the fast one, but not anymore

I remember about 5 years ago, the self-checkout was always the quickest option, maybe 2 minutes tops. Now, at my local grocery in Springfield, it's often the slowest line. I think it's because the machines are older and more finicky, and people have way more items than they used to. Last week, I watched a person try to scan a bag of oranges for 3 full minutes before a worker came over. I've started going to a regular cashier with a short line instead. Has anyone else noticed this flip, or is it just my store?

Just scan your produce codes from the sticker, it's way faster than waiting for help.

Wait, you actually have the codes memorized for every single fruit? That's wild, @umac71. I can barely remember my own phone number most days.

Is it just me or is that actually SUPER impressive though? I can barely remember the code for bananas and I buy them every single week. My phone number I gotta say out loud while I type it, so I feel you on that one. It's like my brain just refuses to hold onto those little numbers unless they're for a credit card or something. Props to umac71 for having that kind of memory, I'm honestly a little jealous.
